About MCWCC
The Mill Creek Watershed Council of Communities enables Mill Creek communities to protect and enhance the value of the Mill Creek, its tributaries, and watershed. Through collaborative action, the Council strives to make the Mill Creek area a more desirable place to live, work and play.
The Mill Creek Watershed Council of Communities is a non-profit corporation representing all 36 political jurisdictions and more than 450,000 residents in the Mill Creek watershed. The Council acts as a forum for making watershed-based decisions by convening and coordinating meetings and projects related to the improvement of the Mill Creek. Through these forums, the Council invites public input on watershed-related issues.
The Council conducts its business through public council meetings and project-based committees comprised of local stakeholders and interested volunteers. At present, Council activities are focused on flood damage reduction, water quality management and improvement, stormwater management, public education and awareness, economic development in watershed communities, and recreational uses of the Mill Creek. There are also ad hoc committees that are responsible for planning fundraising events. The Council creates a quarterly newsletter, Voice of the Mill Creek.
The Council functions as a regional forum for consensus building and takes an integrated approach to watershed problem solving by balancing environmental and economic perspectives with the needs of our local constituents.
In 2009, the Mill Creek Watershed Council of Communities will focus its efforts on two main areas of concern:
1. Flood Damage Reduction
2. Storm Water Management
